The 32nd edition of the Relecq-Kerhuon Model Festival, in Finistère, which took place last weekend, welcomed a somewhat particular model.

That of Robert Mager, 89 years old and passionate about the French Navy, who presented the armored corvette Jeanne d'Arc, the first to be docked in Cherbourg in 1865.

The retiree has experience in this area since, in the space of more than thirty years, he would have built an impressive fleet of cruisers or battleships dating from before the First World War and up to in the 1950s.

" A stroke of luck "

Robert Mager explained to

Ouest-France

to have "really had a stroke of luck": "It is in a trash can that I found a book with a history, photo and map, of this first Joan of Arc

.

I immediately wanted to build it.

"

The retiree, originally from Lorraine and a former marble worker, has already thought of his future project: a model of the first French aircraft carrier, launched in 1920 as a battleship and armed in 1928 as an aircraft carrier.

Robert Mager worked as a mechanic driver on the tug Y705 Kairouan, in Algeria from 1949 to 1954, on the Jean-Bart and the escort surcouf.
