Early Friday morning, a witness called the police.

A truck stopped in the countryside near the Polish border with people around looked suspicious.

About thirty migrants who were crammed into the vehicle had managed to get out.

On arrival, the police discovered on board the truck a lifeless man, a 32-year-old Iraqi, whose death, according to the emergency services, had occurred a few hours earlier.

The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old Turk, had fled.

However, a man in a car accompanying the truck was apprehended by the police.

The smugglers transport migrants arriving from Belarus and help them reach Germany, which has a long border with Poland.

Berlin has stepped up controls along this border to fight against these migratory movements.

For the moment, border posts are not subject to systematic checks contrary to Schengen rules.

A police union pleads for their establishment.

Since the beginning of the year, 7,300 illegal entries of people from Belarus have been recorded in Germany.

They were close to 5,000 in October alone.

A slowdown is not "

in sight,

" according to a police spokesperson.
