The Abu Dhabi Health Services Company “SEHA” identified five signs by which a stroke can be distinguished, including loss of balance in gait without feeling dizzy, blurry or loss of vision, drooping on one side of the face, weakness in the arm or leg, slurred speech or difficulty with speech. Speaking, stressing that time is the determining factor in a stroke, so you should immediately call 999 as soon as you notice any of these symptoms, and SEHA provided 10 tips to reduce the risk of strokes.

In detail, SEHA explained that one out of every four people suffers a stroke, but most strokes can be prevented by following some simple steps and tips, including controlling high blood pressure, exercising five times a week, and following a diet. Healthy and balanced, lowering blood cholesterol, stopping smoking, avoiding smokey environments, controlling stress and depression, identifying and treating atrial fibrillation, maintaining a healthy weight, and controlling diabetes.

SEHA indicated that half of the strokes are related to high blood pressure and its control is by changing lifestyle or taking medications to reduce the risk of stroke, and that nearly a quarter of strokes are related to a poor diet, and that a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables will reduce blood pressure. She pointed out that more than one in four stroke cases are associated with high levels of harmful cholesterol, while one in 10 strokes are linked to smoking, and one in six strokes is linked to mental health, in addition to that people with diabetes are more likely to develop diabetes. with strokes.

SEHA confirmed its success in treating many cases of stroke, providing them with the necessary treatment according to the condition, and the patients returned to their normal lives after receiving health care according to the highest international standards, using artificial intelligence techniques.

Head of the Radiology Department and Consultant, Interventional Radiology and Stroke at Tawam Hospital, a SEHA facility, Dr. Jamal Al-Din Al-Qutaish, said: “At SEHA, we are proud of the availability of cerebral catheterization by means of interventional radiology, which is one of the advanced technologies for treating acute strokes. This is a necessary procedure and has been shown to be effective in treating strokes.”

He pointed out that the traditional treatment of strokes by administering thrombolytic drugs does not work in all cases, especially if the patient arrives three hours late after the symptoms, or comes after a stroke during sleep, which cannot be treated with medications, and the only option is cerebral catheterization and removal of clots by catheter.

While Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi identified two main causes of stroke, ischemia or ischemia, which is the most common cause of stroke, and this type of stroke occurs when a blockage or narrowing occurs in an artery that supplies the brain and leads to a cessation of blood flow to the brain partially or completely.

Dr. Victoria Mifsud, a neurologist and medical director of the Stroke Center at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, stressed the importance of the time factor in dealing with strokes, as stroke is considered a medical emergency, as the brain begins to lose about 1.9 million from the moment the stroke occurs.
