The proportion of failed students in year six has not been significantly affected by the corona pandemic.

For the third year in a row, the National Agency for Education's figures show that more than one in four pupils in the sixth grade received the grade F in one or more subjects when the final grades were awarded this spring.

- There is no major difference compared to last spring, and even if you look back several years, it is stable, says Cajsa Annufrijes Röhr, unit manager for preschool and primary school statistics at the National Agency for Education.

However, the proportion of students with a pass in at least one subject has changed over time.

In the spring of 2015, only one in five students in year six received the grade F in a subject.

But what that change is due to, the National Agency for Education has not analyzed.

- We have not dug deeper into it.

The difference between the sexes decreased slightly

As in previous years, girls received on average better grades than boys.

76.7 percent of the girls and 70.9 percent of the boys achieved approved grades in all subjects, but the difference between the sexes still decreased slightly compared to the spring of 2020.

The subject where the largest proportion of students failed was in Swedish as a second language, mathematics and English.

Have you been able to see any positive trend in this year's report?

- No, nothing that is distinctive, says Cajsa Annufrijes Röhr.
