Citizens looking for job opportunities, while attending the "Tawfeef 2021" exhibition, which started its activities the day before yesterday in Abu Dhabi, wondered about the absence of companies and national governmental, semi-governmental and private institutions that used to participate in this event, demanding that this type of exhibition be subject to full government supervision in order to be achieved. The purpose of its establishment.

Others expressed their astonishment at the lack of specific lists of vacancies available with the participating employers, pointing out that the organization of the job fair in the same hall with the “Najah” exhibition for applying for students to universities caused confusion among most of the attendees.

In detail, the activities of the 15th edition of the annual employment fair "Tawfeef 2021", which is related to the recruitment of national cadres of young graduates and job seekers in the public and private sectors, which started last Wednesday at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center, will conclude today.

Young people who visited the exhibition, during the past two days, said that they had detected weak participation from employers in the job fair, stressing that the interaction they found was limited to the wings of the Ministry of Defense and the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police, in addition to “Etisalat” and “Dubai Investments”, while the rest was limited to Entries on individual companies do not exceed the fingers of one hand and are unknown.

A large number of young job seekers unanimously agreed on the necessity of canceling this type of employment fair or subjecting it to government supervision and control, especially since many of them come to it from remote areas, hoping to hold job interviews with more than one employer, but they clash, according to their description, The lack of participating bodies and the lack of job interviews for the participants, and the matter was limited to registering with the existing bodies and submitting CVs, without even knowing the required job specialties.

They said: "These exhibitions do not serve them, and do not provide clear job opportunities," calling for changing the concept and objectives of these exhibitions from participation to contributing to employment to achieve employment goals, and not the goal of participation and promotion.

Abu Dhabi Police Recruit Talents

The pavilion of the Abu Dhabi Police General Command at the "Tawfeef 2021" exhibition witnessed a large turnout of young men and women looking for work, who flocked to register their data and submit their CVs in the hope of obtaining job opportunities.

The Director of the Human Resources Sector at Abu Dhabi Police, Major General Salem Shaheen Al Nuaimi, stressed the keenness of the Abu Dhabi Police General Command to attract national cadres in the scientific and professional fields within the police and security positions.

Al Nuaimi said: “Supporting the long-term vision of the UAE is at the forefront of our priorities, which we seek to achieve by participating in exhibitions dedicated to providing jobs, such as this leading exhibition.

Al Nuaimi added: "We focus our attention on preparing a generation that has the capabilities to meet the future aspirations of working within the police and security forces, by developing our recruitment campaign."

Reconsideration of "formal" exhibitions

A member of the Federal National Council, Obaid Khalfan Al-Ghoul Al-Salami, called for the need to reconsider the “formal” employment fairs, saying: “Book fairs provide books, and real estate fairs provide real estate, but employment fairs do not provide jobs, and despite the importance of these fairs that await them. The graduates are eagerly waiting, and it is meant for the near and far from young people, but the majority of them only offer to promote institutions and review their organizational structures without providing jobs,” calling for not organizing such exhibitions, or their governance to be subject to the follow-up and control of the concerned authorities in the state, such as the Emirati Cadres Competitiveness Council, or Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Al-Salami told "Emirates Today": "A question arises;

Who benefits from holding non-governmental employment fairs, what is the return of the parties that promote these fairs, and why do they receive media attention despite their inability to provide real job opportunities for the country’s young men and women?”, stressing the need to develop a future mechanism to review the objectives of these fairs before organizing them, and who Then check the results represented in the rates of attracting and employing male and female citizens.
