"To ensure the security of supplies to the EU and member countries, the Nord Stream 2 pipeline represents a new and additional capacity for natural gas imports," the ministry said in a statement to RIA Novosti.

The statement of the German department notes that thanks to the gas pipeline there are new opportunities for gas transportation "during periods of high demand or when construction work is underway on other pipelines."

Earlier, the German Ministry of Economy stated that certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would not pose a threat to gas supplies to Germany.

The Bundestag spoke in favor of the earliest possible commissioning of the pipeline due to the high demand for gas.

In mid-October, the first line of the pipeline was filled with technical gas, the volume of which amounted to about 177 million cubic meters.
