Almost a week has passed since the fatal shooting during the filming of the film Rust in New Mexico in the USA, when the film's photographer was shot to death and the director was shot.

Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza told a news conference on Wednesday that a total of 500 cartridges, both loose shots and what are suspected to be sharp shots, were found near the filming location.

Tests will now be done to determine what type of ammunition it is.

Mendoza did not want to go into how the cartridges ended up on the set, but announced that they had secured a bullet believed to have been fired from the pistol, a Coltrevolver, used by actor Alec Baldwin.

According to the police, the bullet hit the film's director in the shoulder.

The director received care for the injuries in hospital, but was able to leave the hospital shortly afterwards.

More handled the weapon

The director stood under the shooting scene next to the cinematographer, who was killed by the same bullet that hit the director.

The bullet is therefore important evidence, the police announce.

According to the police, two other people must have handled the weapon before Alec Baldwin fired.

- All three have been cooperative in the investigation and have made statements, said Adan Mendoza at the press conference.

He said it was still too early to say whether any people would be prosecuted.

Baldwin conducts his own investigation

The production team behind the film Rust, which includes Baldwin, has at the same time hired a law firm to conduct an independent investigation into the fatal shooting, reports TT.

In a letter sent to actors and other filmmakers, the producers write that the law firm Jenner & Block "will have full freedom in terms of who they will interview and any conclusions they then draw".
