In the new figures presented by the National Board of Health and Welfare on Tuesday, the emergency department at Kiruna Hospital and Piteå Älvdals Hospital has among the shortest waiting times in Sweden with only an average of 18 minutes waiting time before a doctor's assessment.

Gällivare has been at the top for several years in a row but has been knocked down a bit on the list since the waiting time has increased by an average of 22 minutes, but is still one of the hospitals with the shortest median stay.

But 2020 was also a very different year for healthcare worldwide.

Fewer of the less ill

At the emergency room in Gällivare, the pandemic involved a different influx of patients and a different treatment of those who came.

- During the first wave, we received fewer of the less ill patients, but then there were all the more covid patients and covid suspects.

It was a lot of walking around that made it more work, says nurse Sara Karlsson.

In the clip, we meet Sara and her colleague Mia Möller at the emergency room at Gällivare Hospital.
