The International Criminal Court has had an eye on Colombia for 17 years.

President Ivan Duque would like to put an end to this so-called preliminary observation.

His government therefore submitted a big report to the ICC Prosecutor in an attempt to convince him that Colombian justice is now doing its job, that it is independent of political power, that impunity for war crimes is no longer. what it was and that the ICC has nothing more to do in Colombia.

However, this is not the opinion of human rights defenders.

They hope that the ICC will renew its support for the tribunal for peace set up by this agreement and denigrated by the right in power.

They also hope that the ICC will keep the pressure on the Colombian state to bring crimes committed by the military to justice, and in particular what are called false positives here.

The false positives are the large-scale killings of civilians committed during the time of former President Alvaro Uribe, mentor of Ivan Duque, in power.
