The race has already started, more than a month before the Republican Congress.
Xavier Bertrand and Valérie Pécresse, who both hope to represent the right in the 2022 presidential election, have already deposited the 250 sponsorships necessary to stand for the vote of LR members on December 4.
"We have just submitted the sponsorships of 427 elected for Xavier Bertrand", said Wednesday on Twitter the deputy of Pas-de-Calais Pierre-Henri Dumont.
"By adding the support received since Sunday, we largely exceed the 500 signatures", added the deputy, spokesperson for Xavier Bertrand, who sees there "the proof of the dynamic" launched by the candidate.
Regarding Valérie Pécresse, her campaign manager Patrick Stefanini affirmed that "we submitted our sponsorships more than a week ago and we have submitted more than 250".
Barnier is long overdue
Xavier Bertrand like Valérie Pécresse announced two weeks ago their return to Les Républicains, a party they had left in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
On the side of Michel Barnier, the sponsorships have not yet been deposited but we claim "more than 500 signatures from 70 departments".
Candidates have until November 2, 6 p.m. to submit the 250 signatures of elected officials required, from 30 different departments, if they want to participate in the congress scheduled for December 1 to 4, during which LR members will nominate their candidate for the presidential.
