In 2020, there were about ten accidents in the county where at least one A-tractor was involved, which is an increase compared with previous years.

This is something that worries the police.

- They trim up the A-tractors so they run like regular cars.

Then there is also a combination of bad tires and slippery roads that make accidents happen, says Jan Belander.

Sends letters to parents

The police, together with several schools in the county, have sent out letters to guardians who have motorized young people to raise young people's safety in traffic.

As a parent, it is important to know that you have the ultimate responsibility for your child driving safely and legally.

.

At the same time, we want to encourage you to have a good dialogue at home about road safety issues and the child's vehicle, ”the police in southern Lapland write on their Facebook page.

The government starts an investigation

In July 2020, the technical requirements for the conversion of a car to an A-tractor were simplified.

Since then, the number of registered A-tractors has increased - accidents with A-tractors also increased by 46 percent throughout the country in 2020.

The government now wants to control the regulations for vehicles, to make them safer and reduce disruption to other traffic.

The proposal for this is to review seat belt requirements, stricter requirements for driver training and higher speeds.
