Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing Maria Lvova-Belova to the post of Commissioner for Children's Rights for a period of five years. In this position, she replaced Anna Kuznetsova, who moved to the State Duma. Previously, Lvova-Belova was the founder and executive director of a rehabilitation center for young people with disabilities. In 2017-2019, she was a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. From September 2020 until the appointment of Lvov-Belova as a children's ombudsman, she served as a senator from the Penza region.
