October 26, 2021 The Bureau of the Bicameral Commission of Inquiry into the Banking System has decided to convene the CEOs of Unicredit, Andrea Orcel, and Monte dei Paschi di Siena, Guido Bastianini, for a hearing on November 8.

The hearings will be held starting at 5.30 pm, when the markets are closed.

The Commission Bureau convened the hearings and met urgently today. The decision comes after the interruption of the negotiations between Unicredit and the Ministry of Economy for the potential acquisition of a defined perimeter of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena.

EU: Italy is up to the commitments made

"Italy must live up to the commitments made in the decision" agreed with the European Commission in 2017 "and if it believes there are other ways to implement these commitments or exit the Monte dei Paschi di Siena property, it is up to them to propose and for this reason we are in contact with the Italian authorities on this issue ".

Arianna Podestà, spokeswoman for the European Commission, said this during the daily briefing with the press.

As for the Italian government's request for an extension by which the Ministry of Economy and Finance should leave the bank's capital, the European Commission "has no specific comments to make".
