Going through the Royal Suite of the

Four Seasons hotel

in Madrid means taking a trip back in time and exploring the historical, social and economic memory of this country.

In these rooms the so-called

conversation room of

the old Casino de Madrid was located and, later, the boardroom and

the imposing office of the former president of Banesto Mario Conde

, with spectacular views of Alcalá and Seville streets.

Located in

the old Palacio de la Equitativa

, the ranch has remained intact since the building was erected in 1867 until the renovation of the Canalejas Complex began in 2013, which has lasted for almost a decade.

The Four Seasons, which opened its doors in September last year a few meters from Puerta del Sol, now opens its most exclusive room

at a rate of 20,000 euros per night

, which makes it the most expensive in the capital.

The 431-square-meter suite has a spacious living-dining room surrounded by huge windows, an office, a

gym equipped with the latest technology

, a kitchen, a dressing room, a bedroom and a bathroom with a polished Michelangelo marble Jacuzzi from the that you can watch television.

The room, located on the second floor, has a single bedroom, but the next room can be incorporated in the event

that the service or bodyguards travel

with clients.

«This is a unique work.

It is difficult for something similar to be repeated due to its architectural and technical difficulty.

The Royal Suite is the figurehead of the Four Seasons, the flagship of the new Madrid ”, explains Carlos Lamela, the architect in charge of carrying out the complex reform

of the seven buildings in the Canalejas center

, which also includes 22 luxury homes and one commercial galery.

Merge the new and the old

Combining the past and the present,

the old and the new

has been one of the great challenges when it comes to rehabilitating this room of the famous Canadian hotel chain.

In this way, the room, in the Louis XV style, preserves the weight of history through its wooden flooring, its moldings with aged gold leaf on the ceiling or

its chimney with a veined white marble mouth

, as shown. they were in the original room.

But it also incorporates modern elements such as avant-garde sofas, white calligraphic rugs or marble tables on cubist pedestals.

The decoration is adorned with works from the Four Seasons art collection, which has incorporated

1,500 paintings and sculptures by Spanish authors

.

For this, several calls were made in the Faculties of Fine Arts of Madrid, Malaga and Seville and the works of the students were selected.

«I wanted to choose

young Spanish artists

to have an international projection.

The intention was to create a coherent ensemble that incorporates 21st century art into a 19th century space ”, declares Paloma Fernández-Iriondo, curator of the collection.

In addition to the works of Pilar Cavestany or Cristina Almodóvar,

Along The Way

is now added

, an imposing sculpture by

the American artist KAWS

, located in the hotel's iconic lobby.

The statue has been loaned by

Mark Scheinberg

, founder of Mohari Hospitality, the company that is co-owner of the Canalejas building, together with the Spanish construction company OHLA.

The rehabilitation of the Canalejas project has been

one of the most complicated works of engineering and architecture

that are remembered, since not a single historical building has been recovered, but seven buildings at a time, each with a different style, that took 15 years in disuse.

To achieve this, it was necessary to

leave the facades of the buildings suspended in the air

and supported by micro-pillars and twin beams, in order to demolish the interior of the building and then proceed to lay the final foundations.

The only part of the building that was not demolished on the inside was precisely

the Royal Suite

, which was renovated

on site

from inside the building.

The Canalejas complex brings together three concepts in one:

the five-star Four Seasons hotel

with 200 rooms, an urban spa and Dani García's rooftop restaurant;

22 exclusive homes served by the hotel services and the 15,000-square-meter shopping arcade that will have 40 stores and 14 restaurants and will open in the near future.
