October 26, 2021 "A consensual position has not emerged regarding the interventions that must be applied at the EU level. A common approach is necessary. The December Council of Energy Ministers will be a fundamental appointment and will be able to prepare the leaders' summit". This was stated by Jernej Vrtovec, Minister of Infrastructure of Slovenia who holds the rotating presidency of the EU, at the end of the extraordinary Council of Energy Ministers.



The EU commissioner, Kadro Simson, added that "a complete package for the de-carbonization of the gas market and for the hydrogen market will be presented in December". 



"We all share the concern for the most vulnerable, the priority is to protect citizens and businesses. As regards fiscal policies and the energy mix, each Member State has a different situation", explained the EU Commissioner for Energy. in fact, the Spanish proposal to decouple the prices of electricity from those of gas. "It is unclear how a two-price system could work depending on the sources and we don't know if that's the solution," Simson stressed.



The Estonian commissioner has also shown caution on the demands for a reform of the energy market.

"I think this is the best way to guarantee green energy and many ministers have said that we cannot make decisions too quickly," Simson explained, referring to the document presented by Germany and ten other countries in the past few hours.

"We need an evidence-based debate, based on facts and careful analysis," he confirmed.
