A 42-year-old man had to be taken care of by rescuers after a fall on a mountain bike this Sunday in Thuiles (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence).
The cyclist uncontrollably descended a slope for a distance of 30 to 40 meters after having skidded on a patch of ice.
He was injured in the accident, reports
Le Dauphiné Libéré
.
A doctor, from the national association of mountain rescuers (ANMSM), and two members of the high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM) from Jausiers (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) were dispatched to the site.
These professionals feared, at first, that the forty-something had fractured his pelvis.
An evacuation by helicopter
The mountain biker was therefore urgently helicoptered from the Col des Thuiles to the hospital in Digne-les-Bains (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) on board an aircraft from the aerial section of the PGHM.
This alpine site, very popular with mountain bike hikers for the mountain landscapes that it allows to discover, also requires a good mastery of the discipline.
