Armed forces in Sudan arrested a number of officials and politicians at dawn today, including Minister of Industry Ibrahim Al-Sheikh and Governor of Khartoum Ayman Nimr. The Sudanese Professionals Association said that there are reports of a military move to "seize power."

The daughter of Industry Minister Ibrahim Al-Sheikh told Al-Jazeera that a joint force arrested her father from his home at dawn today.

The wife of the governor of Khartoum, Ayman Nimr, also told Al Jazeera that an armed force arrested the governor from his home.

The director of Al Jazeera's office in Khartoum, Al-Muslim Al-Kabashi, said that there are also unconfirmed reports of the arrest of Mohamed Al-Faki Suleiman, a member of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, as well as the Minister of Information, Hamza Balloul.

Reuters also quoted sources from the family of Faisal Muhammad Salih, media advisor to the Sudanese Prime Minister, that a military force stormed the advisor's house and arrested him.

For its part, the Sudanese Professionals Association said that there are reports of a military move aimed at "to seize power", and called on the masses of the Sudanese people to prepare to resist any military coup.
