The four were part of a climbing group of about twelve people who were up at about 6,100 meters altitude on the extinct volcano Chimborazo when the avalanche went.
Chimborazo is a popular tourist destination for both domestic and foreign climbers.
The identities or nationalities of the climbers have not been reported.
The volcano is located in the Andes mountain range and is Ecuador's highest point.
