An "unprecedented" workshop for manufacturing ammunition and assembling firearms was discovered in a container accessible only through a passage buried in the region of Saint-Florent (Haute-Corse), the Bastia prosecutor's office announced on Sunday. .

The owner of this workshop was indicted and remanded in custody.

"Inside, the police services notably discovered several ammunition presses, machines for machining metal parts, about fifty handguns and long weapons and several thousand ammunition", detailed the prosecutor of the Republic of Bastia, Arnaud Viornery, in a press release.

"This is an unprecedented discovery in view of the quality of the concealment of the workshop, the number of garment machines found and the volume of weapons and ammunition stored", he insisted.

This workshop could be identified within the framework of an investigation carried out by the judicial police, after the opening of a judicial investigation for the importation, manufacture and possession of weapons.

Investigators will now have to determine whether this arsenal was intended to be resold, further clarified the prosecution.
