In Blekinge, half of all places at the pediatric clinic are occupied by children with RS.

To protect the very young, there is now a ban on visiting the children's clinic and BB.

Operations Manager Magnus Ljungkrantz does not usually work in the department, but now he has worked all night.

There is a shortage of staff because many are napping or at home due to suspected virus infection.

- Right now we have a very high pressure, both because you are applying for a suspected RS and we have very many patients who need to stay in the ward, says Magnus Ljungkrantz, who is operations manager at the children and adolescent clinic at Blekinge Hospital.

"Do not take the children out"

The reason why so many people are infected with the RS virus now is that there was no season last year due to the corona restrictions.

People kept their distance and washed their hands.

- This year we therefore have two cohorts who have a high risk of getting RS.

It's time to step up a bit and do as under covid to protect the kids.

Stay at home, do not take the children out shopping, says Magnus Ljungkrantz.

When should you seek care?

- This mainly affects small children and if they have difficulty breathing or are able to eat, you should contact the care for an assessment.

New situation for the hospital

How long the pressured situation lasts for the hospital, Magnus Ljungkrantz has a hard time answering because they have never experienced this before.

- But if you look back at seasons with a lot of illness, it has been a pretty quick peak.

In the best of worlds, this could decrease within a month or two.
