- The wild boar population has decreased significantly.

At the same time, we see that the shootings have decreased that the wildlife accidents where wild boar are involved have also decreased sharply, says Benny Nilsson, the Swedish Hunters' Association and county hunting consultant in Östergötland County.

According to the Swedish Hunters' Association, the total wildlife accidents involving wild boar have decreased by 50 percent.

Trapped wild boars

More than 1100 hunting teams in Östergötland have now reported their killed game for the previous hunting year and in 2020 15,772 wild boars were killed compared to 17,020 killed wild boars in 2019. According to Benny Nillsson, the explanation is a reduction in the population.

- The experience the hunters in the county have is a radical reduction in Östergötland.

Even if there are local deviations, says Benny Nilsson.

In the country as a whole, 158,809 wild boars were killed during the 2020/2021 hunting year.

This is an increase of approximately 12,000 animals from the record listing from the previous hunting year.
