They are suspected of being involved in a Vietnamese illegal immigration route to the United Kingdom.

Seven individuals were indicted, announced Thursday, the prosecutor of the Republic of Lille, Carole Etienne, in a statement.

Three of them, considered the "main organizers", were remanded in custody and the other four under judicial supervision on October 15, she said.

Justice suspects them of "trafficking in human beings", "employment of foreigners without a work permit" and "assistance with the illegal entry, movement or stay of foreigners", all in an organized band.

Hosted in the Paris region

All were arrested on October 12, along with three other people, as part of an investigation by the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction of Lille (JIRS).

The investigation revealed that the organizers were hosting Vietnamese migrants in the Paris region "who had transited by air in various countries of Eastern Europe" before entering France by road.

"Some of these illegals were employed to work in the construction industry or in businesses, the time to pay for their passage to France, then England, for a sum of 8,000 to 10,000 euros per person," explained Carole Etienne.

Drivers then transported these migrants to the North, mainly to a camp in Grande-Synthe.

Their passage to the United Kingdom was then organized by local channels.

More than 100,000 euros were seized in cash and more than 200,000 euros in bank accounts during these operations, it is specified in the press release.
