Former member of the House of Representatives Michihiko Kano, who served as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries under both the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party of Japan, died at a hospital in Yamagata City on the night of the 21st.

I was 79 years old.

Mr. Kano was born in Yamagata City, and after working as a secretary for his father who was a member of the House of Representatives, he ran for the first time in the Yamagata 1st district at that time in the House of Representatives election in 1976 and served for the 11th term.

During this time, after joining the Kaifu Cabinet for the first time as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in 1989, he held important positions such as serving as the Secretary of the Management and Coordination Agency in the Miyazawa Cabinet in 1992.

After leaving the Liberal Democratic Party in 1994, he joined the Democratic Party through the New Party Future and the Emerging Party. I made an effort.

Mr. Kano was defeated in the 2012 House of Representatives election when the Democratic Party lost power, and although he ran for the House of Councilors election, he was unable to win a seat and retired from politics.

Received the "Asahi Sun Grand Cordon" in 2014.
