According to Putin, Russia’s interests are in ensuring that Afghanistan eventually emerges from the ongoing, permanent civil war.

“And so that the people of this long-suffering, without any exaggeration, country feel themselves within the framework of their national borders and safe and have chances for development and prosperity,” Putin said.

He stressed that Russia "will strive in every possible way to achieve just such a goal."

Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said that now in Afghanistan there are all signs of a humanitarian catastrophe and economic collapse.
