“Zhovkva called on the EU to apply the mechanism of human rights sanctions against representatives of the occupation administration involved in systemic violations of human rights,” the press service of the Ukrainian leader said.

The parties discussed further interaction within the framework of the Crimean Platform launched in August with the aim of consolidating international efforts.

Zhovkva also briefed Gilmore on the efforts of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to achieve peace in Donbass.

Earlier, Kiev imposed sanctions against 237 people for organizing elections to the State Duma in Crimea and Donbass.

Crimea became a Russian region after a referendum was held there in March 2014 - the majority of residents were in favor of reunification with Russia.
