In Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro is accused of a series of “

intentional

 ”

crimes

during the Covid-19 pandemic which has left more than 600,000 dead in the country. In this 1,200-page document, read in the Senate on Wednesday by the rapporteur of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee, Renan Calheiros, he is notably pinned for his responsibility in the serious oxygen shortages and for his suspicions of corruption in the acquisition of vaccines.

In all, ten charges were brought against Jair Bolsonaro, details

O Globo

, who was able to obtain the report. Among them, "

crime against humanity

 ", "

charlatanism

" and "

prevarication

", that is to say breaches of the obligations related to his office. Two crimes were withdrawn at the last minute, specifies

Correio Braziliense

: those of “

aggravated homicide

 ” and “

genocide against indigenous populations

”. The rapporteur of the Senate Commission of Inquiry explains this in

Folha de São Paulo

. The objective is to find a consensus so that the Senate validates this report. The vote could take place as early as next Tuesday.

Ecuador: Does Guillermo Lasso really want to tackle insecurity?

Let's go to Ecuador now.

The country is under a state of emergency for 60 days, by decision of President Guillermo Lasso.

The latter points to the urgency of a fight against insecurity linked to drug trafficking.

Elements of the security forces have been in the streets since Tuesday,

 " notes

El Comercio

in his editorial.

They carry out arms, ammunition and explosives control operations, drug searches and patrols

."

The newspaper wonders about the extent of the powers of the armed forces.

Although the state of emergency does not suspend or limit the freedom of transit, information or assembly

 ", he recalls that "

its application comes at a time when demonstrations from different sectors (...) oppose the administration of the government

 ”.

They fear that the state of emergency will be used to suppress these demonstrations.

For

La Hora

, "

the policy announced by the government is the right one, because looking away would only postpone the inevitable

 ".

But the columnist wonders if President Lasso will dare to go further.

“

The problem

,” he explains, “

will not be solved by police operations in the streets and at the borders alone.

Gigantic commercial and financial interests have their tentacles in the political life of the country.

Will the regime have the courage to act against them too?

 "

Former FARC leader briefly arrested in Mexico

Finally, this is a first.

A famous leader of the former Colombian guerrilla FARC was detained by the police during a trip abroad.

This is Rodrigo Granda, the chief diplomat of the former FARC guerrilla, one of the negotiators of the peace agreements with the Colombian government.

Upon his arrival in Mexico City on Tuesday, where he was invited to a conference of the Mexican Labor Party, he was arrested and then finally deported to Colombia.

His party, Comunes, accuses the Duque government of having alerted the Mexican authorities to this displacement "

so that international arrest warrants can be activated against him

 ", "

in violation of the peace agreements

 ".

An accusation swept away by Bogota.

El Universal

recalls that Rodrigo Granda is the subject of a "

red notice

" from Interpol at the request of Paraguay, which is looking for him for kidnapping and homicide.

But the Mexican authorities finally decided not to "

activate

" it because of the immunity granted to it by the peace agreements signed between the FARC and the Colombian government.

In

Semana

, to which he gave an interview, Rodrigo Granda declares that his detention upon arrival in Mexico was not justified.

He specifies that he was treated well by the police.
