Thus the President of the Council Mario Draghi in his communications to Parliament in view of the next European Council. The classroom is full. Draghi speaks from the government desk, which is fully booked.

"The epidemiological curve is under control thanks to the sense of responsibility of the citizens. This allows us to keep schools, businesses and places of our sociality open" underlined the premier.

"At the Council, we will also discuss the European approach to tackle and overcome any future pandemics", "we must invest in science and research, which have allowed us to have effective and safe vaccines in a few months", explains Draghi, explaining that "we must avoid the repetition of the dangerous episodes of health protectionism that we witnessed in the first months of the pandemic. We will continue to work to improve the global response to future health crises also in all appropriate multilateral fora. "

Furthermore, on the need for vaccines to the most fragile countries, Draghi reiterates: "The European Council will reaffirm its commitment to contribute to international solidarity in the field of vaccines. We must increase the supply of doses to the most fragile countries, so that they can protect their citizens and to prevent the emergence and spread of new and dangerous variants ". And remember that "only 2.8% of those living in a low-income country have received at least one dose of the vaccine, compared to almost 50% of the world population".

As for Italy's commitment, "it has recently tripled its vaccine donations, from 15 to 45 million doses, to be distributed mainly through the COVAX mechanism. To date, we have assigned more than 11 million doses: among these , about three million each in Vietnam and Indonesia, 1.5 million in Iran and 700 thousand in Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq ".

"Driving European digital transition"

"As regards the digital agenda, the Council intends to define the roadmap for the 2030 objectives, including with the indication of deadlines and a monitoring system. The European objectives for 2030 concern four priority areas: digital infrastructures safe, efficient and sustainable; digital transformation of businesses; digitization of public services; digital skills ", says the premier. "Italy has made these objectives its own (from the digital agenda) and anticipated their achievement by 2026, also thanks to the resources of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. We are still behind, but we intend to quickly close the gap that separates us. from the rest of Europe, and in some sectors to lead the European digital transition ".

Migrants, "the EU engages with humanitarian corridors"

"As regards migration, Italy had promoted a discussion on the issue at the June European Council, with the aim of encouraging a truly European management of flows. concerned by the so-called 'secondary movements', they noted the importance of preventing and containing irregular flows and encouraging legal migration channels. On the latter aspect, Europe should commit itself more, following for example the model of the so-called humanitarian corridors ".
