The UAE-Bahraini Media Forum concluded yesterday, which was organized remotely and over a one-day period by the Dubai Press Club in cooperation with the Bahrain Journalists Association, with the participation of a distinguished elite of press and media icons, officials, editors-in-chief and promising young talents in the media and communication industry in the UAE and Bahrain. The participants stressed the importance of digital transformation, which moved from just an idea to a reality imposed by global changes that culminated with the global exceptional situation left by the “Covid-19” pandemic over the past two years, even as the world began to recover from its consequences.

The main words of the forum were delivered by the Minister of Information Affairs in the sisterly Kingdom of Bahrain, Ali Al-Rumaihi, and the Vice President and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, President of the Dubai Press Club, Mona Ghanem Al-Marri, at the beginning of the forum, which included three sessions that discussed a number of important topics related to the reality and future of Gulf and Arab media work. In general, as an extension of the Dubai Press Club's keenness to launch initiatives and events that enhance constructive bridges of communication between those in charge of media work and encourage dialogue among them in order to reach visions and solutions through which to improve the region's media and enhance its credibility with the Arab audience.

At the outset of the forum, Al-Rumaihi praised the role of the Dubai Press Club, headed by Al-Marri, and the contributions it makes to achieve more rapprochement and activate channels of cooperation between the media institutions in the two brotherly countries, in a way that serves the Gulf media work system in general, within a more comprehensive framework of the historical brotherly relations between the UAE and Bahrain.

He added: "The forum highlights the success story of the two brotherly countries in managing crises and overcoming the repercussions of the Corona virus pandemic and digital transformation in developing services... at a time when the media played its vital role in spreading facts and correct and reliable information."

He stressed the inevitability of moving forward and at an accelerated pace in the field of media transformation towards the digital environment, and said: “The current developments and rapid technological transformations, with the opportunities and challenges they pose, impose on us the need for joint cooperation in advancing the media and its role as an influential force in preserving cultural identity and civilization, and spreading the values ​​of Tolerance and peace and confronting hate speech, extremism and terrorism.”

For her part, President of the Dubai Press Club, Mona Ghanem Al-Marri, stressed the importance of the timing of this forum, as the UAE and the Kingdom of Bahrain are preparing with the world to start a new phase following the many developments that the region and various countries of the world have witnessed during the past few years, the most prominent of which was the “Covid-Covid” pandemic. 19», which affected various sectors, including the media.

She said that the forum aims to answer important questions to draw a clear road map for the future of the Gulf and Arab media, especially in light of regional and global developments, and the accompanying clear effects, noting that the goal of this meeting, which is being held for the first time exclusively between the media of the two countries, is to stand accurately. On the requirements of media development, and what can be done to improve our Gulf and Arab media in general in form, content and message, and how to take advantage of new tools and platforms to increase the efficiency of the media work system.

Al-Marri called on the participants in the forum to present their views on whether our Gulf and Arab media are ready to coexist with the new reality imposed by global developments, and the need to shift to the digital environment, and whether the Arab media has the ingredients that enable it to make this transition smoothly and effectively to reach higher levels. of efficiency and positive impact, in light of the desired role of our Arab media in terms of leadership and ability to compete and achieve the highest levels of excellence.

The President of the Bahrain Journalists Association, Issa Al-Shayji, gave a speech in which he expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Dubai Press Club for the initiative to organize the forum, noting the importance of coordination and cooperation between media institutions in the two countries, and that the forum is a true reflection of the high level of Bahraini-Emirati relations.

Al-Shayji praised the important role played by the media in the two countries in supporting efforts to confront the Corona pandemic and overcome its repercussions in peace, stressing that this experience highlights the need to accelerate the pace in confirming the readiness of the media institutions in the two countries to coexist with this new reality.

In addition, the Director of the Dubai Press Club, Maitha Buhumaid, gave a speech in which she welcomed the participating media professionals from the UAE and Bahrain. It serves the interests of our Arab peoples and paints a positive picture of them.

During the “Future Media Effects” session, which was held within the activities of the “Emirati-Bahraini Media Forum” organized by the Dubai Press Club in cooperation with the Bahrain Journalists Association (remotely) through visual communication technology, the speakers stressed the importance of Arab media benefiting from the successive developments that have taken place in the world, especially Those related to the media sector and the changes in some media concepts imposed by the rapid developments on the global media scene.

The session dealt with joint Arab media action, and the search for a unified vision that would enable the media sector to face the great competition between its Arab institutions and their counterparts in the world.
