Paris wants to rely on Rome
French Prime Minister Jean Castex insisted on the "
excellence
" of relations between France and Italy.
While Germany does not yet have its new chancellor, Paris wants to rely on Rome on the European scene but also on the Libyan dossier.
It was the arrival at the beginning of the year of pro-European
Mario Draghi
at the head of the Council that allowed this warming of relations between France and Italy after
two years of tensions
between Emmanuel Macron and the populist Italian government of Mateo Salvini who had led to the recall of the French ambassador to Rome in 2019.
Everything is now much better, which will be confirmed by the signing of the Quirinal Treaty, a project that was initiated at the start of Emmanuel Macron's five-year term.
