A 29-year-old man is in serious condition after being beaten up overnight from Sunday to Monday in Rouen (Seine-Maritime).

He was in the cathedral square with his 22-year-old partner at around 1:20 a.m. when they were attacked by three individuals, reports 76 news.

Suspects, a woman and two men, resembling the descriptions provided by the couple were arrested and taken into custody.

The woman is 21 years old and the two men 21 and 22 years old.

Two of the perpetrators of the assault “swept” the victim, said a person close to the investigation.

On the ground, the young man "was then kicked in the body and head," said the same source.

The injured person was taken care of at the Rouen University Hospital Center.

Her partner had initially succeeded in putting the attackers to flight to assist her boyfriend.

One of the perpetrators then returned to try to steal the young woman's handbag.

The thief was attacked by the dog that a homeless witness at the scene dropped on him.

The three attackers then left the scene in a hurry.
