The Parisian municipal police are officially inducted this Monday.

Its 154 first agents will therefore roam the streets of the capital from Tuesday, without lethal weapon.

They will be equipped with a tonfa, a bulletproof vest and a tear gas canister.

A new force favored by Geoffroy Boulard, mayor of the 17th arrondissement, but which raises many questions.

Anne Hidalgo had opposed it for years but it is finally a thing of the past.

From Tuesday, Paris will therefore also have its municipal police.

Because unlike all other cities in France, the capital had never had this strength.

The first 154 Parisian municipal police officers officially inducted this Monday, will therefore be walking the streets very soon.

And the goal is that these will be several thousand by 2026, namely 3,400.

However, nothing seems to have yet taken place on the staff distribution side, as explained by Geoffroy Boulard, LR mayor of the 17th arrondissement and guest of Romain Desarbres in Europe Midi.

"I have no information on the number of agents who will be really operational in the coming weeks", he was surprised.

"After this communication operation cleverly orchestrated by the presidential candidate - Anne Hidalgo - who is in difficulty in the polls, we finally have no concrete in the districts", he still regretted.

The need for "staff on the ground"

Despite this quack, Geoffroy Boulard welcomed this device and recognized that the Parisian right has always been in favor of the presence of a municipal police.

This municipal police force, which will not be equipped with a lethal weapon, will have at its disposal tonfas, tear gas canisters and bulletproof vests.

A finding that leaves the city council puzzled.

"Having bulletproof vests but nothing to defend yourself is still anachronistic and not very logical," he said.

He also returned to the missions that await these new agents.

"This police must come in support of the national police which it manages the demonstrations or all the subjects of security of the institutions of the Republic or in matters of terrorism. So the municipal police must for its part control the regulations on the public space and all the incivilities of everyday life. But for that, we need staff on the ground, "recalled Geoffroy Boulard who finally said he was worried about the means deployed for these agents, while many questions remain.
