The students' families confirmed to "Emirates Today" that the prices of books and curricula in private schools ranged between 1200 and 2500 dirhams, while the illustrated curricula are sold at a value of 300 dirhams in bookstores, and the price of school uniforms ranges from 400 to 1200 dirhams without the sports uniform and the winter jacket. It is sold in sewing shops for 150 dirhams.

In detail, students’ families reported that private libraries and sewing shops sell illustrated curricula and school uniforms bearing the logo of each school for eight times less than their price in private schools. They pointed out that the schools monitored, since the beginning of the school year, that a number of students brought black and white illustrated textbooks, despite the fact that the books sold by schools are colored, and did not ask them to change the office or buy from school libraries, stressing that the students’ families are informed freely at the beginning of the school year. Purchasing books and school uniforms from the school or outside, provided that the student attends the semester with books and school uniforms.

In addition, the owners of private bookstores, Raouf Abu Shaaban, Khalil Al-Shaghaf, and Nasser Al-Tahawy, said that copying and selling textbooks is popular with students’ families, especially that their prices are eight times lower than their original price, as some schools that apply American and British curricula sell books from 1200 to 2500 dirhams for each school stage, which adds financial burdens on the students' families.

They added that the libraries obtain a copy of the textbooks, copy and photograph them in high quality in black and white, so that the price of the book in English, mathematics and physics reaches 75 dirhams per book, for example, while the ministry's books are sold from 20 to 22 dirhams, noting that the total The price of picture textbooks is 300 dirhams per student, which helps in their popularity in most private libraries.

While the owners of sewing shops, Siddiq Abdel Rahim, Latif Khayoun, and Saleh Ismail, reported that they sew school uniforms for private schools after they noticed the high prices, and they succeeded in providing them to the students' families at acceptable prices.

They pointed out that they bring pictures of school uniforms to private schools at the beginning of each year and sew models for them, put the school's approved logo and promote it through social networking sites and mothers' groups registered with sewing shops.

They explained that each uniform is sewn on demand after the student's guardian pays a symbolic amount as a deposit, explaining that the price of the school uniform does not exceed 150 dirhams, so that the price of the shirt is 80 dirhams and the price of pants is 70 dirhams.

For their part, the students’ parents, Adel Al-Rayes, Waseem Khalaf and Hanan Zawaideh, confirmed that purchasing illustrated textbooks and school uniforms from libraries and sewing shops helped them reduce school expenses and expenses, especially that the price of books and uniforms in schools is high and costs them from 1600 to 3700 dirhams per student. Which increases the financial burden on them.

They added that with libraries and tailoring shops competing with private schools in the prices of books and school uniforms, students' families prefer buying the lowest-priced items, even if they are of lower quality, because they meet the purpose and help them reduce private school expenses.

Selling via social media

Students in private schools reported that WhatsApp groups and social media pages helped spread sewing shops and bookstores that sell school uniforms and textbooks at discounted prices, which saved families the trouble of searching for libraries and sewing stores.

They pointed out that communication with libraries and sewing stores is carried out via (WhatsApp), determining the number of books required, student measurements, paying a deposit, and receiving them five days before the beginning of the school year.
