A local court turned off a device to control the speed of a train to a former driver accused of manslaughter on the 18th in an accident in Taiwan where a limited express train derailed and killed 18 people three years ago. He was sentenced to four years and six months in prison, alleging that this led to an accident.

In October 2018, in an accident in Yilan County, northeastern Taiwan, where a limited express train derailed and killed 18 people, a total of three people, including a former driver and a staff member of the Railway Administration Bureau, were charged with manslaughter. ..

A local court ruled on the 18th that "a former driver misunderstood that the safety device that controls the speed of the train had broken down and turned off the device without permission, and the speed was about 140 km / h, which is almost double the speed limit. Entering the curve at the site led to a derailment. "

After that, the former driver sentenced him to four years and six months in prison, saying that he did not seem to reflect on it.

Two staff members of the Railway Administration Bureau, who were also charged with manslaughter, were acquitted because there was no causal relationship between the actions at that time and the accident.

Regarding this accident, the Taiwan Transport Safety Investigation Commission pointed out that there was a problem with the management system of the Railway Administration Bureau last year, saying that the training of drivers was insufficient.

Under these circumstances, the limited express train derailed in Hualien County in the east in April, killing 49 people, and there are growing voices asking about the constitution of the Railway Administration Bureau.
