The Kuwait National Petroleum Company said that a fire broke out - this morning, Monday - in the oil desulfurization unit in the Al-Ahmadi refinery in Kuwait, without affecting export operations and local supplies.

The company added - in tweets on its Twitter site - that minor injuries occurred, and cases of suffocation occurred as a result of inhaling fumes.

First aid was provided to the injured at the site, and they are all in good condition, and two other injured were taken to Al-Adan Hospital, and their condition is stable.

The company stated that the oil desulfurization unit No. 42, in which the fire broke out, has been isolated and all lines leading to it, indicating that the refinery's firefighting teams are still dealing with the accident.

Al-Ahmadi refinery is one of two oil refineries owned by the state-run Kuwait National Petroleum Company, which supplies the country with its needs of oil derivatives and exports them abroad.
