A Russian spy who worked in the office of the French Defense Minister in 2017
The former director of the French General Directorate of External Security, Bernard Bajolet, revealed that a spy for Russia worked in the French Ministry of Defense in 2017, speaking during a program on the "France 5" network on Sunday evening.
Bajolet was asked about information according to which a spy for Russia was working in the office of then Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, who is currently holding the foreign ministry, and confirmed in the documentary about Russian President Vladimir Putin, "Indeed, when I was Director General of External Security, I reported the matter" to the government.
"In the past years, we used to say 'It's all over,' after the Cold War, we no longer have time to waste on spies who no longer exist... The priority is on terrorism issues," he said. But we see very well that the espionage activities did not stop at all, and that the means employed by the Russians and the Chinese, but also by others, the Americans, were never as large as they are today, let us see things for what they are.”
At the time, the investigative news website Mediapart revealed this information, stating that a spy for the Russian military intelligence had recruited an informant inside the office of Jean-Yves Le Drian when he was defense minister under former President Francois Hollande.
