The fire which ignited the fifth and last floor of 32, rue Paul-Bert in Lyon, on October 14 at around noon, had given rise to a spectacular rescue.

To escape the smoke that had invaded his apartment, a man had taken refuge on his window sill;

a neighbor had managed to grab his arm and hoist him up to safety.

A burglar and aggressive neighbor

The origin of the fire is less heroic, as the DDSP indicates in a press release published on Monday.

A resident of the building said she was robbed after being away from her home for a few days.

The burglar had passed through a hole in a dividing wall.

The victim went to knock on the neighbor's house, who threatened her with a knife.

While she was warning the police, the neighbor sprayed the door of her apartment with flammable product before setting it on fire.

The fire ravaged the victim's apartment, spreading quickly to the other apartments.

The inhabitants were evacuated from the building without there being any injuries to deplore.

The police discovered several belongings belonging to the victim in the accused's apartment.

Presented to the Lyon public prosecutor's office on October 16, he was imprisoned pending a judgment in immediate appearance on Tuesday.
