• Interior Mossos and local police consider making "strikes" due to the lack of support from the Government

A week after the demonstration called in Barcelona, the Mossos d'Esquadra and the local Catalan police officers are charging themselves with reasons for the protest. A few days ago the police unions regretted the attitude of the President of the Government, Pere Aragonès, not to meet with them since they consider that he is "turning his back" on the "security crisis" in Catalonia in which the agents are on target. of groups of people who consume alcohol in public areas

The last example was the early morning of this Saturday at the Vacarisses Festival when a massive fight ended with attacks on Mossos and local police when they went to act. "They define it as extreme violence against all police. Mosso by kicked the ground," said the spokesman for the union Fepol Toni Castejón on social networks and added. "Comrades with more than 20 years of service have not experienced something the same. Several comrades from both mossos and local police were injured and luckily nothing worse happened. Get back soon. One more attacks on policemen, and we're not even talking about loss of authority Spinning this is going to be ... ".

In the same sense, the Union of Mossos d'Esquadra regretted this "new case of attacks" against the police and called for a "quick recovery" of the wounded. The Association of guards, agents and municipal guards of Catalonia indicated that the situation is aggravated by "the lack of troops, incivism and the brutal loss of the principle of authority."

The Mossos reported that yesterday they arrested a 20-year-old man for running over several people and that it led to a massive fight in Vacarisses, for which four other people, aged 22 to 27, were arrested for attacking authorities. and injuries. Between 40 and 50 people participated in the fight and ended up attacking the police in a very violent way. There are several officers slightly injured by these attacks. Faced with this situation, they had to request reinforcements from the regional police unit in Terrassa to disperse the violent.

This fight, which ended with an attack on the agents, began after the outrage whose alleged perpetrator was arrested hours later for a crime against traffic safety.

For this reason, the City Council of Vacarisses regretted these situations "with fights and attacks on the police who attended" and before "the manifestation of violence" they decided to suspend some concerts.

Jugado de Terrassa opened two different cases, one for the accused of reckless driving and another for the four investigated for an attack on the authority, and all the suspects were released with charges.

Fewer incidents

However, the Generalitat has wanted to qualify this violence. The Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, condemned the altercations but urged not to link "crime or violence with youth", for which he asked to differentiate between "bottles" and vandalism. Thus, he considers that the latter are caused by "a minority that has nothing to do with the majority of young people" and that they take advantage of the crowd to commit aggression, destruction, looting and robbery.

In an article published in 'Nació Digital' Elena recalls that 'bottles' are not a new phenomenon and that they have structural causes, such as the "economic precariousness of youth, frustration due to lack of opportunities, the difficulty to become emancipated and have access to housing, dissatisfaction with an uncertain future or rejection of authority ".

Thus, he stressed that a new nightlife model must be created and recalled that last summer in Catalonia was not more conflictive than others since between July and August of this 2021 24,000 night-time incidents were recorded, 43% less than in 2019.

Union outrage

For the unions of the Mossos and local police, the words of the minister are an attempt to "minimize" the violence suffered by the agents every weekend, since they consider that this summer this problem of breaking the police authority has worsened. "In almost all the actions for alcohol consumption in the street outside the hours allowed by the COVID restrictions, they received us with violence, throwing bottles or stones at us or with insults," explain sources from the Mossos unions who assure that it was a generalized situation in all of Catalonia.

In addition, they indicate that sometimes one or two patrols would go to try to kill a 'bottle!' And that the people who were in the street outnumbered them, so they had to flee to avoid "being lynched". That is why they denounce a lack of personnel and material means that they consider the responsibility of the administration on which each police force depends. The unions also warn that the people who attacked them in these bottles or who later caused numerous acts of vandalism, such as those seen in Barcelona during the Mercè, are "very young", so they consider that the loss of authority also occurs in other areas such as school with teachers or family.

Faced with this situation, the representatives of the Mossos d'Esquadra, Urban Guards and Local Police maintain the protest next week for the "instrumentalization" and "contempt" of the agents by the administrations and warned that if Aragonès does not meet with them "a clear message will be sent to the respective groups: the security crisis is not a matter of the first order."

"The professional groups we represent would not like to have the feeling that the supreme command of the body of the Mossos d'Esquadra and the first authority in Catalonia is turning its back on the situation that the public security service has been suffering," the unions highlighted that they consider that they should explain to the Catalan president the "seriousness" through which "the public security service is going", as well as convey to him "the fatigue suffered by the constant political instrumentalization" and the "urgent need to leave the police forces out of political confrontation ".
