On October 15, the first phase of the Fifteenth Conference of Parties (COP15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity was successfully concluded in Kunming, Yunnan.

Huang Runqiu, Chairman of COP15 and Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, stated at the press conference that the conference has achieved many results.

  First, the conference has gathered broad political will and formed a strong political impetus.

Second, as a landmark result of this meeting, the “Kunming Declaration” has provided political guidance for the follow-up consultations on the 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, reflecting the actions taken by countries to reverse the current trend of biodiversity loss. And the determination and willingness to ensure that biodiversity is on the road to recovery by 2030 will inject new impetus into global environmental governance.

Third, China has put forward pragmatic and vigorous host country measures and announced the establishment of the Kunming Biodiversity Fund, further demonstrating China’s ambition and actions to work with the international community to promote multiple global biological governance to a new level.
