Many people were rescued, and there were still people trapped in buildings. The earthquake caused roads in the disaster area to be blocked by landslides, hindering the evacuation work.

  The Indonesian National Disaster Response Agency (BNPB) issued a press release stating that the earthquake occurred at 3:18 in the morning. The epicenter was 8 kilometers northwest of Karangasem County, Bali, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The disaster area included Karangasem. In the county and Bangli county, at least 2 people were known to have died, 7 people were seriously injured, and 4 people were trapped at around 7 am.

  The press release pointed out that at least three roads leading to the disaster area were blocked by landslides. Rescue personnel evacuated the affected people by way of lakes. Search and rescue work is still ongoing.
