Well-informed sources inside the occupied Syrian Golan said that the Israeli occupation forces assassinated the liberated prisoner Medhat Al-Saleh through a sniper operation inside the Ain Al-Tineh site in the Syrian territory opposite the town of Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan, near the ceasefire line.

According to the al-Saleh family, they received a call from Syria confirming the assassination of their son on the balcony of his house in Ain al-Tineh, while there was no official Israeli comment.

Israel accuses Al-Saleh - who was responsible for the file of the occupied Syrian Golan in the Syrian government and is a former member of the People's Assembly - of being an active activist in resisting the occupation.

Medhat Al-Saleh - who is in his mid-fifties - was able to escape and cross the border after the occupation authorities released him. He was arrested in 1985 and spent 12 years in the occupation prisons on charges of participating in a secret cell involved in resisting the Israeli occupation.
