David Amess, an MP for the Conservative ruling party in Great Britain, died of his injuries on Friday after being attacked with a knife.

The British media reported this unanimously.

Previously, among other things, the news broadcaster Sky News had reported that an attacker had stabbed Amess in his constituency in Essex several times during a citizens' office hour.

Amess has been a member of the British Parliament since 1983.

Essex police said a man had been arrested after reports of a knife attack.

No further suspects are sought.

The case is reminiscent of the murder of Labor MP Jo Cox in 2016. Cox was also attacked by a right-wing extremist during a public consultation in her constituency.

The attacker called "Britain first", fired several shots and also stabbed his victim.

Cox died from her injuries.

The crime happened exactly a week before the historic EU referendum on June 23 and deeply shocked the British.

The 41-year-old Cox had campaigned for Britain to remain in the EU.
