• The facts The university student who shot his college bought the shotgun online and tested it at a shooting range hours before

The young biology student who shot down his faculty in Vizcaya this Wednesday had meticulously prepared his particular revenge against the University of the Basque Country (UPV).

The university student obtained a weapons license before classes resumed, located a shotgun on an internet portal and formalized the acquisition of the weapon with the Civil Guard.

It is a

pumping

or sliding shotgun

that belonged to an

ertzaina

, unrelated to the use that the university student carried out just hours later.

With that weapon that the Ertzaintza also uses as a police force, he began shooting windows, walls and a car on the Leioa campus.

In just 40 minutes, the Mobile Brigade units, Explosives or Citizen Security agents supported by a helicopter located the young university student when he was trying to leave the college that he had shot with the second-hand shotgun.

The Ertzaintza has not revealed the identity of the young man who, according to sources in the investigation, is collaborating with the Basque Police to clarify the reasons that prompted him to fire about 40 shots with cartridges that his classmates, in class, interpreted as firecrackers.

"Good academic record"

The alleged revenge against the University of the Basque Country would not have an academic motivation because the young man, as explained by Dean

Fernando Plazaola

, had a "very good academic record" in his Physics degree.

The university student born in Andoain (Guipúzcoa) obtained his weapons license from the Guipúzcoa headquarters after passing a psychotechnical exam and taking a shooting test.

The type E weapons license that he obtained allowed him to use hunting shotguns with cartridges or shotguns for sporting purposes.

The shooter obtained a hunting shotgun through the

Milanuncios

online

buying and selling portal

and previously closed the delivery of the weapon with its owner, following current regulations at all times.

The young man and the Basque policeman who owned the weapon formalized the sale contract and appeared at the La Salve Civil Guard barracks on Wednesday morning.

The

ertzaina

contributed the shotgun and the gun guide to the Civil Guard's Weapons and Intervention Service.

After saying goodbye to the seller, the 21-year-old went to a shooting range in Gallarta where he tested the shotgun before going to the UPV campus.

There, with his shotgun hidden in a guitar case and 75 cartridges bought at Decathlon, he spread terror with his shots among students and teachers.
