The Social Democrats, who took first place in the German legislative elections, the Greens and the Liberals announced on Friday that they had reached a preliminary agreement with a view to forming a government.

"We have actually managed to agree on a document. It is a very good result, it clearly shows that a government can be formed in Germany" congratulated the Social Democrat

Olaf Scholz

, probable future chancellor, in a statement to the press with the leaders of the environmentalist and liberal parties.

These three formations, whose programs are very different, have been holding preliminary negotiations since the beginning of October to try to form an unprecedented coalition, without

Angela Merkel's

conservatives

,

who registered

the worst result in their history

in the September 26 legislative elections.

On the basis of the document presented on Friday, the three parties will deepen their talks and begin official negotiations that will address, point by point, all the details of the future alliance.

This preliminary document foresees that taxes will not be increased and that public debt limits will be maintained.

In addition, social democrats, greens and liberals want to advance the end of coal in Germany from 2038 to 2030.

To respect the objectives of climate protection, an accelerated exit from the production of electricity with coal is necessary, they affirm.

These progress in the talks do not yet mean that this coalition will necessarily be formed, and that Olaf Scholz will succeed Angela Merkel, who has held the post since 2005, as chancellor.

The formation of a new government in Germany is

eagerly awaited by the country's allies,

who fear paralysis, especially at the level of the European Union, if the political vacuum in Berlin is prolonged.
