Today,

technological innovation

is present in all corners of the planet and has become the key to moving forward and opening a door towards equality. In matters of

education and training

, it is essential that the

new digital options

are available to all students. In this way, a technological gap between them is avoided and they are encouraged to have the same opportunities. This is also reflected in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, since number 4 ensures Quality Education and 10 does the same with the Reduction of Inequalities.

As a sign of its commitment to this issue,

Orange

has launched different services and initiatives to make technology and the digital world accessible and more and more people can enjoy its benefits. In the educational field, the company has launched

Orange Digital Center, an innovative online platform that tries to make digital innovation more accessible for everyone, especially vulnerable social groups

. To achieve this, it offers a wide range of content that will allow students to optimize their professional future, as well as improve education and digital inclusion, promote innovation or support entrepreneurship.

There are already more than 10,000 people registered in this project and the goal is for this figure to multiply by five by the end of the year, reaching a total of 50,000 before the end of 2021. Among all of them, there are very different profiles.

For this reason, the platform offers training in different areas of digital skills and adapts to the needs of its different beneficiaries, who may be

young people, women at risk of exclusion and low employability, families, teachers, people with autism or entrepreneurs

.

For many of them this is even a starting point when it comes to occupying, in the future, relevant digital positions, once they have completed their training.

Four itineraries

Orange Digital Center is a global project where

the objectives are very different and, at the same time, capable of responding to the entire digitization process

.

For this reason, this initiative has been structured around four training itineraries:

  • Responsible use of ICT

    .

This training is aimed especially at the educational community and, more specifically, at teachers.

Even so, it is also important that the family have a minimum knowledge of this subject, especially in matters of security and privacy on the Internet.

  • Digital Inclusion

    .

This itinerary was created to focus on some vulnerable groups with whom the Orange Foundation was already working, such as young people, women and people with autism.

  • Climate change

    .

In this case, it is aimed at making students aware of the environmental impact of human activity and how technology can contribute to reducing this impact.

  • Entrepreneurship

    .

This path allows developing digital skills to improve professional activities or entrepreneurship.

A long way forward

This digital platform is just the first step in an ambitious project that will culminate in the creation of a

physical space oriented towards digital training and innovation

, in order to support digital entrepreneurs. Every path begins by walking and, of course, every step counts. Thus, in 2022, Orange Digital Center will be

a meeting point for startups and entrepreneurs

and will put at their disposal the best practices and resources that enable the start-up of their own business. At this meeting point, citizens, entrepreneurs and professionals with long experience in the digital world will meet, who, for their part, will be able to advise, encourage and put those who are starting their adventure in contact with the best experts in their fields.

These spaces are already a reality in other countries where the Orange Foundation operates.

In Spain the first is expected to open soon and one of the main programs that will be part of it is the related one are the

programming schools

, which will act as training centers for new programmers and will offer specific courses to improve their employability.

At Orange Digital Center, startups and entrepreneurs will have the best resources to start their own business

In addition to Orange Digital Center, the Foundation is carrying out other initiatives that aim to facilitate the inclusion of vulnerable groups through education. This is the case of

GarageLab

, a project aimed at

students with difficulties of adaptation and

achievement

in the traditional educational system

. Its objective? Reduce the dropout rate of students in Basic Vocational Training, Second Chance Schools and Educational Associations and Foundations, increase their motivation and promote the improvement of their academic results and their employability. All of this is possible thanks to the acquisition of digital skills through the Fab Lab environment and the Maker movement.

A second example is the

EDYTA

program

, a

nationwide

pedagogical project around education and digital transformation.

In this case, it is intended for both third sector entities and public administrations that work with

female groups in situations of vulnerability, risk of exclusion and low employability

.

This initiative seeks to empower these women, increase the social impact of their actions and promote their social inclusion and in the world of work.

All of this through the development of digital skills.

And is that, if new technologies are already here, in our day to day, why not make the most of them?

They are, without a doubt, a great opportunity to achieve true equality.

Opportunities for all

Today, being connected is essential to be part of the digital world. For this reason, Orange works so that more and more people can take advantage of all the benefits that technological innovation brings, both from a social and an economic point of view. So much so that

in 2020 it became the first company to launch a social tariff

, adapted to the needs and economic capacity of households with fewer resources. All this with the aim of continuing to support the inclusion of the most vulnerable and that digital becomes for them an opportunity and not just another barrier in their social and economic development.

The

Orange Social Rate

offers 500 Mbps symmetric fiber Internet access, both upstream and downstream, a fixed line with unlimited calls to national landlines and a mobile line with unlimited calls to landlines and national mobiles and a 3GB data bonus for navigate at maximum speed. All this without commitment of permanence. This rate can be accessed by families benefiting from the Minimum Living Income (IMV) or the Minimum Insertion Income (RMI), which are promoted by the different Autonomous Communities. In addition, it can be contracted at any time, like any other rate in the company's catalog.

Another of the initiatives that Orange has launched in this line are the so-called

solidarity Gigas

, designed for those households that cannot consider, due to financial difficulties, access to minimal connectivity.

This can cause, for example, that the smallest of the house are penalized, compared to their peers, in their studies.

In order to avoid these differences, the company will offer free 4G Internet connection for one year to families in digital exclusion identified by SOS Children's Villages and the Red Cross.

Thanks to all these proposals, Orange continues to work so that technology acts as a tool for social inclusion and integration for the most vulnerable, far from generating differences between people.
