Lebanese President Michel Aoun met Defense Minister Maurice Selim and discussed with him the security situation in the country and the role the army played to control the situation and restore security after Thursday's events in the Tayouneh area.

The defense minister said that the military would not allow any abuses that would cause disturbances or threaten public safety.

The Lebanese presidency said that President Aoun discussed with Justice Minister Henry Khoury the need to activate the role of the Supreme Judicial Council, especially after appointing 4 members of it and taking the legal oath with the fifth member.

Former Lebanese prime ministers condemned the clashes in the Tayouneh area yesterday, Thursday, and called on the security forces to take maximum measures and measures to prevent all forms of violence. They stressed the need to respect public freedoms and peaceful demonstration within the law, and they renewed the demand for the assistance of an international or Arab investigation committee in order to uncover the full facts of the Beirut port explosion.

They also called on Parliament to issue a constitutional law that lifts immunities for everyone in order to achieve justice, according to the statement.
