Nigerian army confirms death of ISIS leader in West Africa

The Nigerian army announced today, Thursday, the death of the leader of the terrorist organization “ISIS” in West Africa, Abu Musab Al-Barnawi.

"I can officially assure you that Al-Barnawi is dead," Chief of Defense Staff General Lucky Irapur told reporters.

It is as simple as that, he is dead and will remain dead,” without providing any details about the date and how of his death, while the organization did not issue any confirmation.

Al-Barnawi is the son of the founder of Boko Haram, which has been waging an armed rebellion in northeastern Nigeria since 2009.

Al-Barnawi came to the fore after his separation from “Boko Haram” in 2016 following disagreements with the group’s leader, Abu Bakr Shekau, who died earlier in the year during internal battles between the two factions.
