This will be the first visit of an African head of state to Washington since the election of Joe Biden to the presidency in 2020. President Uhuru Kenyatta will finish at the White House, this Thursday, an official visit to the United States.

Kenya remains a strategic ally for the Americans, in a region where the Biden presidency has made a strong commitment since coming to power.

Joe Biden and

Uhuru Kenyatta

have known each other personally for years.

In 2010, the former vice-president of Barack Obama even visited the Kenyan president at his mother's house.

This Thursday, the subjects of discussion are not lacking between the two men: bilateral trade, transparency of international finance, defense of democracy, regional peace and security and climate change are officially on the agenda.

Another subject will dominate their discussions, that of the war in Ethiopia, for which the Kenyan president reiterated that there was "

no military solution

" Tuesday, after his meeting with the UN secretary general.

Kenya currently chairs the Security Council and shares the position of calling for political dialogue, which Addis Ababa refuses for now.

The two heads of state will undoubtedly also discuss the

verdict of the International Court of Justice which ruled in Somalia

against Kenya on Tuesday, in the maritime dispute between the two countries.

Ironically, it was from the UN in New York that Uhuru Kenyatta said he no longer recognized the jurisdiction of his main judicial body.

But that, in a call from the foot in Washington, he called instead for the creation of an "

environment conducive to the search for a negotiated settlement

 ".
