On October 13, local time, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a video conference with representatives of various countries attending the CIS meeting.

Putin said at the meeting that the situation in Afghanistan is not optimistic.

After the U.S. troops withdrew from Afghanistan, power has been transferred to the Taliban, who set their own rules in Afghanistan.

In addition, the branch of the extremist organization "Islamic State" is still active in Afghanistan and actively recruits armed personnel with combat experience from Iraq and Syria. Therefore, it is not ruled out that terrorists will try to create turbulence in neighboring countries.

Putin emphasized that the situation in the border areas between the CIS countries and Afghanistan is worrying.

This involves the common security space of the CIS countries.

The CIS countries need to be prepared for confrontation with armed elements and conduct joint operations when necessary.

The Commonwealth of Independent States will strengthen cooperation at all levels including heads of state and departmental cooperation to deal with potential threats that the situation in Afghanistan may pose to Central Asia, Transcaucasus and other regions.
