An international meeting was held online to discuss countermeasures against cyber attacks using a ransomware computer virus called "ransomware", and about 30 countries including Japan participated and used it to pay the ransom. Discussions are being held on measures to prevent the misuse of crypto assets.

This meeting will be held online on the 13th, hosted by the US government, and will be attended by about 30 countries including Japan, and will be discussed over a two-day schedule.

At the beginning of the first day's meeting, White House National Security Adviser Sullivan said, "This is not a problem that can be solved by just one country. Face ransomware and take responsibility for criminals and countries that hide criminals. International cooperation is important to ask. "

The meeting will discuss strengthening anti-money laundering measures for crypto assets used to pay ransoms and international cooperation on the prosecution of organizations and persons involved in crime.

However, Russia, which is said to be based in a ransomware criminal organization, has not been invited to this meeting.

According to the US government, the total damage caused by ransomware over the last year amounted to 400 million dollars (about 45 billion yen in Japanese yen) worldwide.

The attack was also confirmed in Japan, and in the United States, the largest oil pipeline in Japan was attacked in May, causing a serious problem such as a temporary suspension of supply.
