It was nicknamed the "Madoff Briarde", from the name of the American swindler convicted in 2009. Tuesday the criminal court of Meaux (Seine-et-Marne) rendered its decision in the case of a vast swindle orchestrated by a resident of Marles-en-Brie, reports

.

Estimated loss: 3.3 million euros.

The main defendant having died before the trial, only her husband and her daughter were sentenced to respective terms of three and one year in prison.

They will also have to reimburse the amounts swindled to the victims.

During the hearing which took place on September 14, the two accused did not wish to speak.

Through the voice of her lawyer, the young woman announced her willingness to appeal this decision.

More than sixty victims

It was between 2010 and 2015 that the "Briarde Madoff" would have mounted this vast scam, known as the Ponzi scheme. This is a fraudulent financial arrangement consisting in reimbursing the first customers with the sums brought by the new entrants in the chain. A system that collapses once the sums to reimburse customers turn out to be insufficient.

Among the victims was in particular the former gynecologist of the main suspect, from whom she allegedly defrauded more than 400,000 euros.

The latter trusted him completely, according to his testimony at the hearing.

In all, about sixty people fell into the trap of one who presented herself as a trader and promised them amazing gains.

Victims who, in the absence of the main accused, left without a response from the court.
